star gazing in the city

I love star gazing. It is one of the only lures to live in the country side for me. Since we've been here in the city, I haven't noticed a single star. But thanks to Ashley, I discovered this star gazing "substitute"! There are 201 solar powered LED lights on decaying wooden pillars in the Hudson river. Spectators on the pier can control the lights to reveal constellations from the night sky. Awesome, right? It seems like it would be beautiful to visit. One more thing to add to our forever growing "to do" list!

p.s. Speaking of constellations, I love this :)

happy weekend!

He did this a lot this week. Honestly, it was hilarious to watch :) What were some of your highlights of the week? What are your plans this weekend? I am attending a crafters afternoon with Grace Bonney from Design*Sponge and I have to say, I'm a little nervous/star struck but mostly excited. Whatever your plans, I hope you have a fantastic weekend, friends!

craving...

Salsa! Who doesn't love it? My sister makes the absolute best salsa and the other day, I was craving it. Since she's roughly 2200 miles away, I got her recipe, tweaked it just a bit and made my own. Let me tell you, it is all we have been eating and we have the breath to prove it! In case you would like to make your own, here is the recipe:

Ingredients:
9-10 Roma Tomatoes
1/2 White Onion
1 Jalapeno
1 Small Lime
Cilantro - a few small sprigs
Salt
White Vinegar

Basically, cut up the vegetables (not the lime!), throw them in a food processor and go to it! Add vinegar and salt to taste, squeeze in the lime and you have salsa! Enjoy!

first day of school

The day has finally come! Today is Preston's first day at NYU, and we couldn't be more excited. Grad school has been a long time coming and we're so glad for him to finally begin. I insisted Preston let me take a couple of pictures of him before he left and he (very reluctantly) let me.

I'm a little nervous for him, just because we have no idea how heavy the work load will be. Everyone says it is so much harder than undergrad work. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the people who say that all tend to exaggerate :) And even if they are right, we're hoping that because it's film school, it will be a bit more enjoyable. Do you have any experience with graduate school? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Wish my man luck friends!

In case you are wondering, here is what Preston is wearing:
{Shirt - handmade}
{Jeans - Gap}
{Shoes - Chuck Taylor}
{Bag - Moop (his graduation gift!)}

happy weekend!

Here are my three favorite parts of the day (with Elliott): When he wakes up yelling "Good Morning!", when he goes to bed (relief!) and bath time. He takes a bunch of his animals, lines them up on the side of the tub and counts them over and over. Of course, the horse is his favorite, hence the kiss :) I'd love to know, what are your favorite parts of the day?

Friends, what are you doing this labor day weekend? Have any fun "say goodbye to summer" plans? We're planning a little excursion downtown, having dinner with some friends, and hopefully a little relaxing. Whatever you do for labor day I hope you have a great weekend!

road trip postcards

What a fun way to send updates on a road trip to loved ones back home. Have them pre-stamped, fill them out and add a small polaroid of you at the location. Personalized and adorable! Let's be honest, you're family would much rather see a picture of you at the grand canyon on a well designed card than a cheezy (over-priced) picture of a huge hole in the ground :) Get yours here.
