canned lasagna and staying dry

Friends, how was your weekend? Ours was spent being evacuated and hunkering down (phrase of the weekend) in a friends apartment with days of water, food, and emergency kits. You'll notice our matress is on top of our kitchen counter. Since we just moved to here, when I called to get renters insurance, no one would write us a policy because of the hurricane on its way. So none of our things would be covered if we did get as much flooding as expected. Crazy, right?! Yes. Thankfully, the flooding was minimal here - none in the apartment - and we are finally home again.

We pretty much spent the weekend watching the news, movies and eating PB sandwiches and canned lasagna. Hopefully all of you east coasters stayed safe and dry!

calm before the storm

It's the day before Hurricane Irene is supposed to arrive in our area and of course it is a beautiful day. The calm before the storm. Even though we are still unpacking (I know, we're so slow!) I really wanted to take Elliott to the park for a while since it will probably be impossible to get out and play for the next few days. Growing up in Florida, we became quite accustomed to preparing for and dealing with hurricanes. But for some reason being up here in Hoboken waiting for Irene to rear her ugly (and rather large) head, I feel a little helpless. We have several places we can go to evacuate if necessary, but I am thinking we might ride it out here. We'll see!

Anyone who may be affected by the storm, be safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Take care everyone and have a great (safe) weekend!

**UPDATE**
We had a mandatory evacuation, so we left home but we're safe and doing well. Stay safe everyone!

ON THE SUBWAY

Learning the subway system from Hoboken to NYC was easy, nothing to it. But now I've been trying to figure out the NYC subway stations. Particularly which stations in the city have elevators (there aren't as many as you'd think!) And elevators are kind of a necessity with a stroller. Luckily, I found this handy list. Thank you MTA!

Friends, do you have any tips on city traveling with a youngster? Please share!

have a great weekend

Don't you just love that boy's bed head? It's out of control! If you follow me on twitter, you may have seen this already along with loads of other pictures via instagram. I am a little obsessed :)

Friends, what are you up to this weekend? We are still very busy settling into our new apartment. But it's coming along nicely :) We are planning to spend part of tomorrow roaming the city though. It'll be a much needed break from all of this cleaning and unpacking. Whatever your plans, I hope you have a great weekend!

Madison Park

Right after Elliott arrived in Hoboken, I took him to the closest park. Madison Park is pretty much perfect. Two playgrounds, two sets of swings and a splash area in the center. Elliott had mixed feelings about the sudden squirts of water from the ground and buckets of water from above. But mostly he just squealed with joy. It's literally a 1 minute walk for us. If you're in the area, GO!
