YESTERDAY

Flowers from my motherboy

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! I was spoiled with french toast, gifts, flowers and an impromptu mother's day song by a certain little boy. I feel so grateful to be the mother of such an amazing boy. He makes every day of my life so much brighter, funnier, and definitely more surprising. I'm so glad he's mine. And on the topic of motherhood, I seriously have the best mom. She is the most giving, selfless and fun mom and granny. The kids made her a crown from pipe cleaners and claimed her queen of the grannies and I couldn't argue with that. She is the best any kid could hope for. I don't normally get all mushy here, but yesterday had me feeling especially grateful and happy I couldn't not share some of those sentiments. I hope you had an equally great mother's day. Happy Monday!

HAPPY WEEKEND + LINKS!

My boys

Happy Mother's day weekend! Do you have any fun and exciting plans for the weekend? I am ready to be pampered and to spoil my mom rotten. Preston has the next few days off from work (which is super rare) so we have a lot of fun planned for this weekend and some secret planning for Sunday. Today the guys are off to ride go-karts while I get some work done - and maybe get caught up on Parks and Rec. Maybe. No matter how you spend this Mother's day weekend, I hope it's a good one. We'll be back next week with more fun projects! Until then, here are this week's links.

Two shirts for one holiday! These shirts are super easy to make and are perfect for your little one to sport this Mother's day. Elliott loves the tattoo design. He thinks it's hilarious! And though I love that design as well, I am partial to the Motherboy one. If you are an Arrested Development fan then you know all about Motherboy. I won't go into plot details here, but basically it is a mother and son obsession fest. Elliott of course doesn't watch the show, but Preston and I are huge fans so this shirt seemed like a no-brainer for Mother's day. You can download the Motherboy design here and the tattoo design here. Both files are in PNG form so you can resize them to fit onto your little one's shirts. I used my Cricut Explore to cut the iron on transfer, but you could also use an xacto knife, some freezer paper and fabric paint to make the same design. As much as I love a freezer paper craft, the Cricut makes the same job so much easier and perfect. I used this iron on transfer also made by Cricut and it worked like a rock star. Again, so very easy.

Now to decide which shirt to have Elliott wear this Sunday...

MOTHER'S DAY CARDS

Printable Mother's day cards!

Just in time for the big day, some printable mother's day cards! I should re-phrase that. They are printable, but your kids have to color, fingerprint stamp, or paint them. Such hard work, I know! These are great for gifting to Grandma, Granny, Nana, and all the other various names we give to the women we love. You can download the flowers card here and the other card here. For the flower card, we used some ink pads and stamped little flower petals using Elliott's finger. To make it easier for them to reach all the way around the flower just rotate the paper. For the other card, we went with watercolors. Not only was this card fun for him to paint, but (without any prompting) he named off each letter and the sound it makes as he painted it. Educational bonus!

Isn't that the craziest little piñata you've ever seen? Happy Cinco amigos! We love horchata. Whether we make it ourselves or get it at our favorite Mexican restaurant, it is definitely one of our favorite drinks around here. So! I am sharing a super easy recipe to make your own for Cinco de Mayo!

2 C milk - any kind you like

1 C uncooked, long grain white rice

5 C water

1 TB vanilla

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2/3 C sugar

Combine the rice and water and let it sit for about an hour. Next, blend them for about one minute and strain the rice out with a mesh strainer. Add the other ingredients, stir well and let it chill for a while in the fridge. Serve cold with some churros and chocolate sauce!
